What Makes A Home or Building Green?

“Green design” building revolves around the integration into a sound environment a sustainable design, construction, and systems, which produce a positive impact on human health and comfort.

All of these factors work in harmony to achieve sustainability when the home or building is constructed, occupied, operated, and maintained.  As a result, the home or building becomes interconnected with the neighborhood, community, and earth.

According to the United States Green Building Council, buildings in the US account for:• 70% of electricity
• 39% of all energy use
• 39% of all (CO2) emissions
• 40% of raw materials use
• 30% of waste output
(136 million tons annually)
• 12% of potable water

The National Association of Realtors® (NAR’s) Green Designation addresses the concerns of consumers that are seeking real green expertise, not just lip service.   The core course and elective course involves 18 hours of education.
