Established in 1982, we are committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The Sunshine Kids provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for Kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.

What does hope look like when someone is facing a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis? In Highlands, it’s beginning to look like this.
At the ribbon cutting for the new Stage4Hope Welcome Center, founder @stacycarterofficial shared what’s taking shape here in our community, and the scope of the mission is remarkable.
Stage4Hope is building an 8,000-square-foot retreat center in Highlands, with future guest housing for patients and families. Their first in-person Highlands retreat is planned for November 7, creating a place for patients and caregivers to process the emotional weight of a late-stage diagnosis with licensed therapists.
Stacy also shared one challenge we hope our community will help answer:
$125 a month funds support for one patient for an entire year.
Her goal is 100 people. If 100 people step forward, Stage4Hope can serve 100 more patients here in Western North Carolina.
The organization is also helping patients navigate clinical trials and advanced cancer care while investing directly in research, including a $2.5 million commitment to Memorial Sloan Kettering.
This is much more than a new building in Highlands. It is a resource being created for families during some of the hardest days of their lives.
