Dixie Swim Club in Highlands NC

Spring has sprung in Highlands these days and the flowering plants and shrubs are about three weeks earlier than usual.  Right now the hybrid rhododendron is in full bloom in shades of purple, fuchsia, red and pink. Temperatures are warm, too, for early May, but still very pleasant. Our seasonal homeowners are beginning to arrive back here for the summer.

One thing you will not want to miss is the production of the Dixie Swim Club by the Highlands-Cashiers players. Brought back by popular demand, this play debuted in Highlands in the winter of 2010.  Because of its ability to make people laugh and cry, it was well-loved and talked about so much that the players decided to do it again.  Anyone who saw it before will see it again and bring all their friends.

This touching comedy is a reunion story of five women who were on the swim team in college.  They meet again throughout the years at a beach cottage on the outer banks of North Carolina, and from there the story of their lives unfolds.  Four of the original actresses will return to their roles.  The part of Sheree will be played by Jenny King. Dinah will be played by Carla Gates, Vernadette  by Lee Lyons and Mary Adair Lesley will portray Jeri Neal.  New to this play, but not to Highlands theatre is Bonnie Earman in the role of Lexie.  The actresses had so much fun in the original production that they were excited to be able to do the play again under the direction of Rick Siegel.

Performances are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 10-13 and Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday May 17-20.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students.  You can make reservations by calling the HCP box office from 10 to 4, Monday through Saturday, at 828-526-8084.  This is the final play of the season, completing the Highlands-Cashiers Players’ 17th season.
