Born and raised in eastern North Carolina, Terry was fortunate to spend his earlier years in a rural farm setting. There, his parents taught him and his siblings how to be self-sufficient.

One of Terry's children took a job in Cashiers, which led Terry and his wife Donna, who is also his personal assistant, to visit the area frequently. They fell in love with the region and purchased property there a few years ago. Upon retiring from a 33-year career with a communications company (formerly known as telephone and telegraph companies), Terry and Donna moved to Cashiers full-time in 2021. Although Terry had enjoyed coming to the mountains with his family, he never assumed they would one day call these beautiful mountains home. He often tells people, "It's like living in a postcard."

Terry, a self-described "flatlander" turned "Highlander," recently worked as a mountain adventure guide for a local tour company. He took great pleasure in sharing the area's places and history with adventurers during his tours.

Carpentry is something Terry greatly enjoys, and he had the opportunity to work as a homebuilder for a few years prior to his career in the phone company. This experience made him the perfect candidate to become his daughter's "contractor," helping her family make their home special.
