The summer isn’t over yet and the Highlands/Cashiers NC area has loads of great activities still planned. The Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet has been hosting free concerts this month as well as a time for children to explore their musical side with instrument ‘petting zoo’ breaks here and there. The special two-night grand finale will be August 28-29 and will conclude the series. Other Jackson County NC Chamber of Commerce presented free concerts include the High Windy Band on August 22 and Dehlia Low on August 29.
And for photography buffs, the NC Arboretum is presenting nature photography exhibits from Aug 14 to Nov 15. The “Celebrating Nature Through Photography” exhibit boasts local photography of the gorgeous Carolinas. Also, the “H. Douglas Pratt and John C. Sill’s BIRDS: The Science of Illustration” exhibit is currently on display; Pratt has contributed to such renowned publications as National Geographic Society’s Field Guide to Birds in North America, while Sill’s is known for his artistic illustrations of birds as presented in books and magazines.
