Highlands NC Hosts Twilight 5K This Weekend

Highlands NC hosts the Twilight 5K this weekend.  Saturday, August 19, get outside and get your feet moving.  The race kicks off at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park.  This year’s race expects a record number of people to show up to participate in the Twilight 5K in Downtown Highlands.  The Twilight 5K began in 2013 as small race.  This fun run has continued to grow and 2017 looks to be the biggest yet!

The Twilight 5K was started by the Rotary Club as a fundraiser.  The race raises one that support youth activities in the Highlands, NC community. The first year saw 130 runners and the money raised purchased new free weight equipment in at the Highland Civic Center.  The next year there were 250 runners, $11,000 was raised.  The funds went toward athletic improvements for Highlands School.

Each year there have been more participants and more money raised to enhance the lives of youth throughout the Highlands community.  The run and the efforts of the Rotary Club demonstrate the importance of community.  Our mountain area loves to come together to support one another!
